Kindergarten Balanced Beginnings and Important Dates
Cougar Run will have Kindergarten Balanced Beginnings on August 8 & 9, 2022.  You will receive a specific time on one of these two dates from your child's teacher  to bring your child.  There will be NO School for Kindergarten Students on August 10, 2022.  Kindergarten students will have their first full day of school on Thursday, August 11, 2022.

If you pre-order your child's school supplies from School Tools, they will be delivered to the classroom the week before.

Kindergarten student photos will be scheduled during the school day in August or September.

Here is more about Balanced Beginnings from DCSD

Douglas County School District implements a special transition process for our Kindergarten students called Balanced Beginnings. The first days of school will be staggered, with small groups of students coming in rather than the entire class. This eases the transition into Kindergarten and allows teachers and students to build positive relationships, introduce the new environment and routines, and collect informal data as they begin their year with students. Your child's school will provide more information closer to the start of the 2022-2023 school year.

How can I know if my child is ready for kindergarten?
  • In the same way that every child learns to walk at a different age, different children develop academic and social skills at different rates.
  • We have linked a Kindergarten Readiness information sheet for your reference. (Versión en español aquí)
    • This is not a checklist, but a way for you reflect upon your child's strengths and growth areas as you prepare your child for Kindergarten.
    • If your child has some of the skills listed in each area, your child's skills are in line with the expectations for kindergarten readiness.
    • If your child has not yet acquired many of the skills in each area, it may indicate that your child could benefit from more experience in a structured learning environment or exposure to similar-aged peers prior to embarking on kindergarten.
  • Douglas County School District Educators can partner with you in determining your child’s individual needs in order for them to have a successful school experience.
  • Please contact your neighborhood school for registration information and assistance.
